Within the scope of bacterial biofilms and their ECM we are particularly interested in the following topics:

Self-assembly and aggregation of proteins.

Protein structure and function.

Polysaccharides.

Intermolecular and surface forces.

Biomineralization.

A biofilm is a community of microorganisms that form on surfaces and interfaces. The cells in a biofilm are held together by an extracellular matrix (ECM) macromolecules (polysaccharides, proteins and nucleic acids). This exracellular material is in the heart of our research.
