Polymer Chromatography System

This system includes a binary and an isocratic pump (P1000 and P2000/Thermo), autosampler (AS3000/Thermo), a combination of columns (reverse phase and GPC), and four online detectors (see below): UV (Thermo) (1) and Refractive Index (Thermo) (2), Multiple Angle Light Scattering (BiMwA/Brookhaven) (3), and Viscometer (ETA2010/WGE Dr. Bures) (4).
The system is integrated through the WinGPC software (PSS), and allows the determination of molecular weights by standard and universal calibration as well as by light scattering (absolute molecular weight determination). In addition, 2D-chromatography of polymers (i.e., by chemical interactions and size exclusion) is also possible in a fully automated mode.



Laminar Flow Hood (ADS Laminaire) and Spin Coater (SPI)

Allow the preparation of thin polymer films under dust-free (class 100) environment.



Manual Ellipsometer (Rudolph)

The ellipsometer is used to measure the thickness of thin polymer films.



Vacuum Oven (Fisher)

The oven is used to anneal block polymer samples above their glass transition temperatures (up to 250oC), which allows them to relax to their microphase separated structures.



Polymerization Line

The line enables the conduction of living anionic polymerization and controlled radical polymerization under high vacuum (diffusion pump) conditions.
