הירח עשוי להיראות לעין מירושלים בין 16:50 ו-17:54. בשעה 16:50, הירח יהיה באזימות °239, ½2 אצבעות (°½4) שמאלה משקיעת השמש וברום ¼1 אגרופים (°12).

There was a solar eclipse today that was seen from Jerusalem between the clouds – see pictures.

For the first time in years, the Moon is expected to appear on the 29^th of this Hebrew month. That means that the Moon that would require testimony will appear on the date that matches the calculated calendar.

In honor of this occasion there will be a

Moonwatch gathering with a barbecue

on the Mount of Olives.

The proceedings will be in Hebrew but will be flexible enough that you will still understand a lot even if you don't speak Hebrew.

On Wednesday 5th January 2011 at 16:00 we will gather in the yard of Tsippora and Rehavia Filch on the Mount of Olives opposite the Temple Mount. Here is what is in store:

16:15 Afternoon (Mincha) Prayer opposite the Temple Mount

16:30 I will give a practical demonstration of how to observe the Moon (if it is cloudy then a theoretical explanation will be given).

The Moon is expected to appear between 16:50 and 17:54. At 16:50, the Moon will be at azimuth 239°, 2¼ fingers (4½°) left of the sunset and 1¼ fists (12°) high.

17:30 A feast 'fit for King David' with a barbecue and plentiful wine and beer

On Tuesday 4th January 2011 there will be a partial solar eclipse visible from Israel. It will start at 09:55, reach a maximum of 57% at 10:40 and finish at 11:25.
