הירח נראה מהארץ ביום ראשון, ל' בחשון תשע"א. זו הפעם הראשונה מזה שנים שנראה הירח בזמנו. הירח צפוי להיראות בזמנו גם בחודש הבא. בעוד חודשיים צפוי הירח להיראות בזמנו בכ"ט של החודש כך שאילו תהייה סנהדרין מוכרת היא תוכל לקדש את החודש בלי לשנות מיידית את הלוח. תודה לכל מי שיצא לתצפית.

בחודש הבא הירח יופיע מהארץ ביום שליש, ל' בכסלו תשע"א. הירח עשוי להיראות לעין מירושלים בין 16:19 ו-18:14. בשעה 16:19, הירח יהיה באזימות °226, ¾1 אגרופים (°18) שמאלה משקיעת השמש וברום ¾1 אגרופים (°½18). ניתן לראות את הירח מהארץ בעזרת טלסקופ ומאמריקה ודרום אפריקה בעין יום קודם.

רוב הזמן אנחנו שמים דגש על הירח בחידושו שמסמן את תחילת החודש. אבל צפייה בירח הישן גם יכול לתת אותו מידע על אפשרות ראיית הסהר ולפעמים נותן תמונות יפות. החודש צילמתי חרמש כפול: הגדול של הירח והקטן של נוגה.

The Moon was seen from Israel on Sunday 7^th November 2010. This is the first time in years that the calculated month matches the observed month as will be the case next month. In two months time, the Moon will be seen to appear on 29^th of the month such that if there would be an authorized Sanhedrin, they could sanctify that month without having to make any immediate change to the calendar. Next month, the Moon is expected to appear from Jerusalem on Tuesday 7^th December 2010 between 16:19 and 18:14. At 16:19, the Moon will be at azimuth 226°, 1¾ fists (18°) left of the sunset and 1¾ fists (18½°) high. The Moon may be seen a day earlier with a telescope from Israel and with the naked eye from America and South Africa.

We usually concentrate on the New Moon that signals the beginning of the month. However, observing the old Moon also provides information about the visibility of crescents and sometimes gives pretty pictures. This month, I photographed a double crescent: the big one is the Moon and the small one is Venus.
