הירח נראה מהארץ אמש (יום ראשון, ב' תשרי תש"ע). הירח נראה בקושי רב יום קודם בארה"ב ובעזרת טלסקופ (ראה טבלה). אומנם ראייה בטלסקופ אינה מהווה ראייה להלכה אך יש לה ערך מדעי והיא גם מוכיחה שלמרות ההתמקדות במקום הנכון הראייה בעין בלתי אפשרית. תודה לכל מי שהתאמץ לחפש את הירח.

חשוב מאוד להסתכל בחודש הבא מהארץ כי התצפית מאוד שולית ביום שני, א' חשון תש"ע. מירושלים, ובדומה לכך משאר הארץ הירח עשוי להיראות בין 17:14 ו-17:22. בשעה 17:14 הירח יהיה באזימוט °½243, ½1 אגרופים (°½15) שמאלה של השקיעה וברום ½1 אצבעות (°3). אם הירח לא מופיע ביום שני אז הוא יופיע ביום שלישי בין 16:50 ו-18:15. בשעה 16:50, הירח יהיה באזימוט °230, ¼1 זרתות (°½28) שמאלה מהשקיעה וברום ½1 אגרופים (°14). בשאר מדינות העולם, הירח יהיה גלוי מאמריקה, אפריקה ואוסטרליה ביום שני; הודו, המזרח הרחוק ואירופה ביום שלישי; וסקנדינביה ביום רביעי.

The Moon was seen from Israel yesterday (Sunday 20^th September 2009). In the USA using a telescope the Moon was seen with great difficulty a day earlier (see table). Although a telescopic observation does not constitute a sighting according to Jewish law, it does have scientific value and shows that even if you are looking at exactly at the right point, the Moon is still not visible to the naked eye. Thank you to everyone who made the effort to look for the Moon.

It is very important to look next month from Israel because the observation is very marginal on Monday 19^th October 2009. From Jerusalem and similarly for the rest of Israel the Moon might be visible between 17:14 and 17:22. At 17:14 the Moon will be at azimuth 243½°, 1½ fists (15½°) left of the sunset, 1½ fingers (3°) high. If the Moon does not appear Monday then it will appear Tuesday between 16:50 and 18:15. At 16:50, the Moon will be at azimuth 230°, 1¼ spans (28½°) left of the sunset, 1½ fists (14°) high. Elsewhere in the World, the Moon will be visible on Monday from America, Africa and Australia on Monday; India, the Far East and most of Europe on Tuesday; and Scandinavia on Wednesday.
