מהארץ הירח נראה בקושי רב במשקפת בלבד אתמול על ידי מגבעת רם, ירושלים בין 17:09 ו-17:12. ממקומות אחרים בירושלים, אשדוד וערד הירח לא נראה. השמיים היו בהירים והראות טוב אך הירח היה כל כך גבולי לראייה שנדרש ראות מעולה כדי לראותו ולכן הוא לא נראה לעין בלתי מזוינת.

ראייה במשקפת אינה ראייה כשרה לקדוש החודש. חייבים לראות את הירח בעין בלתי מזוינת.

לכן נא לחפש שוב את הירח הערב יום שני ב' טבת תשס"ט. מירושלים, ודומה לכך משאר הארץ, תיתכן ראיית הירח בין השעות 16:26 עד 18:29. בשעה 16:26 הירח יהיה באזימות °227 (°16 שמאלה ממקום שקיעת השמש) וברום °20.

בתמונה: הירח שנראה במשקפת מגבעת רם ירושלים ביום ראשון א' טבת תשס"ט 17:11. הוגבר הניגוד מעט כדי שהירח ייראה יותר ברור.

From Israel the Moon was only seen with binoculars with great difficulty yesterday by me from Givat Ram, Jerusalem between 17:09 and 17:12 (UTC+2). From other places in Jerusalem, Ashdod and Arad, the Moon was not seen. The sky was clear and the visibility good but the Moon’s visibility was so marginal that excellent visibility would have been required in order for it to be visible to the naked eye.

Seeing the Moon with binoculars is not valid for the purposes of setting the month. The Moon must be seen with the naked eye.

So, please look for the Moon again today, Monday 29th December 2008. From Jerusalem and similarly for the rest of Israel, the Moon may appear from 16:26 to 18:29. At 16:26 the Moon will be at azimuth 227° (16° left of the sunset) and 20° high.
