הירח לא נראה ביום חמישי א' חשון תשס"ט מהארץ. דיווחו על עננים קרובים לאופק מעפרה, טלמון, ירושלים, בן שמן, כפר מצליח ובאר שבע. אלמלא העננים הירח היה נראה אך ורק אם השמיים היו צלולים ולא אביכים. זאת אומרת שזה לא בטוח שהיה אפשר לראות את הירח אפילו אם לא היו עננים. הירח נראה לראשונה מהארץ ביום ששי ב' חשון תשס"ט מעופרה ב-16:29 על ידי אליהו כ"ץ ואברהם שליסר.

 

ביום רביעי ל' תשרי תשס"ט לא היה צפוי שהירח יופיע אפילו בארה"ב. בכל זאת ניסה ג'ים סטאם בטוסון אריזונה לראותו בטלסקופ, כצפוי ללא הצלחה.

 

ביום חמישי הירח נראה א' חשון תשס"ט מחוץ לארץ.

 

מפליינו, טקסס, ארה"ב; לארי אצ'רסון ראה אותו ב-18:58 (UTC-5).

מטיוס, אלבמה, ארה"ב, חוה וסאם רייוס ראו אותו ב-18:36(UTC-5).

מאדלייד, אוסטרליה, משה אליהו ראה אותו בין 20:10 ו-20:30 (UTC+10½) (ראה את התמונה שלו).

 

בתמונה: הירח שנראה מאדלייד, אוסטרליה ביום חמישי א' חשון תשס"ט בסביבות 20:20 (UTC+10½). הירח נראה מאוזן מאחר שהוא היה מאוד דרומי. בארץ הירח היה אמור להיות נטוי מאוד אך בחצי ספרה הדרומי של כדור הארץ ירח דרומי נראה מאוזן כמו שירח צפוני נראה בישראל.

In the northern hemisphere, the Moon for was very tilted but in the southern hemisphere a southerly Moon is horizontal just like a northerly Moon seen from the northern hemisphere.

 

  בחודש הבא, הירח יופיע מהארץ ומרוב העולם בשבת ב' כסלו תשס"ט. מירושלים, ודומה לכך משאר הארץ, תיתכן ראיית הירח בין השעות 16:32 עד 17:41. בשעה 16:32 הירח יהיה באזימות °½227 (°½17 שמאלה ממקום שקיעת השמש) וברום °½11. תיתכן ראייה בקושי רב יום קודם לכן מדרום מערב ארה"ב ואילו מסקנדינביה הראייה תתאפשר רק למחרת. למי שנמצא שם תיתכן תצפית מודרכת במעלה מעלה אדומים וייתכן מלוה מלכה אחריה. אם היא תוצא לפועל יינתן פרטים בהמשך. בבית דין בירושלים מתכוון לשחזר גביית עדות החודש ביום ראשון ג' כסלו.

  The New Moon was not seen from Israel hursday 30th October 2008. Clouds near the horizon were reported from Ofra, Talmon, Jerusalem, Ben Shemen, Kfar Matsliach and Beer Sheva. Had there not been clouds, the Moon would only have been seen if the sky was clear and not hazy. In other words, it is uncertain if the Moon would have been visible even without clouds. The Moon was first seen from Israel on Friday 31st October 2008 from Ofra by Eliyahu Katz and Avraham Shlisher at 16:29 (UTC+2).

 

  On Wednesday 29th October 2008, the Moon was not expected to appear even in the USA. Nonetheless Jim Stamm tried to see it with a telescope and confirmed that it could not be seen.

 

  On Thursday 30th October 2008, the Moon was seen from elsewhere in the World.

 

From Plano, TX, USA; Lary Acherson saw it at 18:58 (UTC-5).

From Titus, AL, USA; Eva and Sam Reeves saw it at 18:36 (UTC-5).

From Adelaide, Australia; Moshe Eliyahu saw it between 20:10 and 20:30 (UTC+10½) (see his picture).

 

  Next month, the Moon will appear from Israel and most of the World on Saturday 29th November 2008. From Jerusalem and similarly for the rest of Israel, the Moon may appear from 16:32 to 17:41. At 16:32 the Moon will be at azimuth 227½° (17½° left of the sunset) and 11½° high. The Moon may just be visible to the naked eye from the south western USA a day earlier but will not be visible from Scandinavia until a day later. There may be a moonwatch gathering for people in Ma’ale Adummim that may be followed by a melave malka (post Sabbath feast). If so details will follow. The beit din (religious court) in Jerusalem intends to reconstruct the receiving eyewitness reports on Sunday 30th November 2008.

 

  A course (in Hebrew) in the Jewish calendar and astronomy will be starting shortly at the Kerem B’Yavneh yeshivah. For details, contact Rabbi Shai Walter swa@zahav.net.il or 088566560.
