  החודש ייתכן ראייה נדירה מאוד בארץ: ירח הישן ביום רביעי (כ"ח אייר תשס"ז – יום ירושלים) בבוקר והירח החדש למחרת בערב. לא היה מקרה כזה יותר מעשר שנים שרק לילה אחד מפריד מהירח הישן לירח החדש מאופק ארץ ישראל.

 

  לכן כולכם בארץ מוזמנים לחפש את הירח ביום רביעי החל משעה 05:00 עד 05:30 ושוב ביום חמישי בין 19:30 ו-20:30. אומנם הסיכוי לראות את הירח בעין ביום רביעי נמוך אבל שווה לנסות. הירח יעלה במזרח (אזימות °67) ביום רביעי ומירושלים בשעה 05:15 יהיה ברום °½2 ואזימות °68.

 

  ביום חמישי מאופק ישראל הירח החדש יופיע מעל אופק צפון-מערב בין השעות 19:30 ו-20:30 בין אזימות °294 ו-°301 ברום °11 בתחילת אפשרות הראייה עד שקיעתו. הראייה הקל ביותר יהיה בסביבות 20:00 (אזימות °297, רום °6). כוכב חמה יופיע °5 שמאלה ו-°3 מעל הירח אך יהיה קשה יותר לראות.

 

  הירח החדש יטה קצת ימינה בתחילת הופעתו ממרכז ודרום הארץ בניגוד לנטייה הרגילה שלו שמאלה. (שים לב שהפכתי את כיוון הנטייה בטעות בדיווחים קודמים. הנטייה הרגילה של ירח חדש אמורה להיקרא נטייה שמאלה. תיקנתי גם את המדריכים לשנה זו ולשנה הבאה.)

  This month a very rare observation is possible from Israel: the old Moon on the morning of Wednesday (16th May 2007) and the New Moon the next day in the evening. There has not been a case like this in over a decade where only one night separates the old and New Moons as seen from Israel.

 

  So everyone in Israel is invited to look for the Moon on Wednesday starting at 05:00 till 05:30 and again on Thursday between 19:30 and 20:30. Although the probability of seen the Moon with the naked eye on Wednesday is low, it is well worth the effort. The Moon will rise in the East (Azimuth 67°) on Wednesday and from Jerusalem at 05:15 will be at altitude 2½° and azimuth 68°.

 

  On Thursday, the New Moon will appear from Israel over the North-Western horizon between 19:30 and 20:30 between azimuth 294° and 301° at an altitude of 11° at the beginning of its appearance falling to 0° on setting. The easiest sighting will be around 20:00 (azimuth 297°, altitude 6°). Mercury may be visible 5° left and 3° above the Moon but will be more difficult to see.

 

  The New Moon will tilt slightly right at the start of its appearance as seen from central and southern Israel instead of its usual leftwards tilt. (N.B. that I mistakenly reversed the tilt in my previous reports. The normal tilt of the Moon should be termed left. I have also corrected the guides for this year and next year.)
