2006/01/02

Dear All,

The Moon was not seen last night (Sunday 1st January 2006) from Israel due to clouds. The Moon should have been clearly visible but clouds were reported from Arad, Ashdod, Jerusalem, Maale Adumim and Poria. This is the second month in a row that this has happened and demonstrates the need for calculations to back up observations that are hampered by weather. The only positive report that I have received yet is from Lior Eshdat in Centennial, CO, USA where the Moon was seen last night on its first appearance at 16:50 (UTC-7), RH 22%, T 7.7°C. From Tucson, AZ, USA, the Moon might just have been visible the previous evening were it not for clouds.

Next year's (5767 or 2006/7) observation guides are now available in English and Hebrew from our website http://www.geocities.com/royh_il/handouts.htm

Next month's New Moon should be clearly visible on Monday 30th January 2006 from Israel and the rest of the World. However, from Scandinavia and Australia, it will be very difficult to see and any observations from there would be very important for improving visibility criteria.

Yours,

Roy.
