Dear All,

  Happy Chanukah.

The New Moon was clearly seen from Israel last night, Monday 13th December 2004. From Jerusalem it was seen by Devorah and Nehemia Gordon at 16:49 (this was probably not the first moment of visibility) and from Petach Tikva at 16:26 by Ruth Pories and 16:27 by Miriam Kaatz (T 16°C, RH 60%). If I receive more details, they will be sent to the sub-list that requested them.

On the previous evening (Sunday 12th December 2004), the Moon was seen with the naked eye from Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ, USA by Faye Libbey at 17:40 and subsequently by three others (Jim Stamm, Matt Stamm and John Polecheck). This is an important observation at the limit of the possibility of visibility (ease of visibility 0.03±0.1 where 0 is supposedly the limit of visibility). Congratulations to the observers. The previous morning, an attempt was made to see the old Moon with an 8" telescope from San Pedro Vista near Tucson but the Moon was too small to be seen.

Some changes have been made to the website article on the Sanhedrin in light of comments that I have received.

Yours,

Roy.
